Tip 3 - Understanding Your NDIS Contacts: A Simple Guide

Ever picked up the phone or sat down at a meeting, only to wonder, "Who exactly am I talking to here?" Let's clarify the three key people you might interact with on your NDIS journey.

The NDIS Planner is like an architect of your support plan. They have the authority to create and approve your plan, ensuring it includes reasonable and necessary supports that align with your goals. However, you may not always deal with them directly.

Your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) is a partner of the NDIS, not an NDIS employee. Think of them as your main point of contact who can:

  • Answer questions about your plan
  • Track your funding usage
  • Connect you with service providers
  • Help prepare for plan reviews
  • Pass information to NDIS Planners

Important note: If you have an LAC, they'll usually be your main contact instead of an NDIS Planner, who works behind the scenes.

The NDIS Helpline (1800 800 110) is your first point of contact when you're unsure where to start. While these staff work from scripts and may not have direct NDIS office experience, they can provide basic information and point you in the right direction.

Not sure who your contact is? Simply visit any NDIS office, call the helpline, or drop into your local LAC office to find out.

If you want to feel organised, record who you speak to, what about and when, then we recommend the Calendary. It's the Number 1 tool for managing your NDiS because if you use it regularly, you will have all the information at your fingertips.
