#10 Photos Help Tell Stories
Share
We've all heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. When it comes to your NDIS plan, this couldn't be more true! Taking photos of your everyday challenges can make a huge difference in helping others understand your disability.
Why photos matter
Think about an occupational therapist's (OT) report. When it includes photos of your home, your mobility challenges, or how you adapt to do daily tasks, suddenly your situation becomes real to the person reading it.
Those NDIS planners and partner agencies see hundreds of reports, but the ones with photos stand out and tell your unique story.
Simple ways photos can help
- Before and after shots: Show how equipment or modifications have made a difference in your life.
- Daily challenges: Capture moments that demonstrate difficulties you face (like reaching items, navigating steps, or using facilities).
- Solution documentation: Take photos of creative ways you've adapted to manage your disability.
- Evidence of deterioration: If your condition is changing over time, photos can document this clearly.
- Home environment: Pictures of your living space help OTs explain why certain supports or modifications are necessary.
Remember, you don't need professional photography skills! Just simple, clear photos taken on your phone can powerfully illustrate your needs in a way words alone never could. You can print them for a few cents at your local Officeworks and paste them into the Calendary to keep those memories for years to come.
Next time you're working with your OT or preparing for a review, consider how photos might help tell your story. That visual evidence might just be what makes the difference in getting the support you truly need.
