Tip #41 Sharing Information

Tip #41 Sharing Information

Let's talk about consent forms – those magical pieces of paper that give people permission to chat about you behind your back (but in a good way!).

Getting Your Consents Right

When navigating the NDIS, you'll need to formally consent to sharing your information with various people. Think of it as creating a guest list for your personal information party – you want the right people there, but not everyone needs an invitation.

Key people who might need consent:

  • Your support coordinator (definitely invite them!)
  • Family
  • Allied health professionals
  • Service providers

Spring Cleaning Your Consents

Just like that gym membership you never use, old consents can pile up. Regularly review who has permission to access your information and cancel any that are no longer needed. Did you change providers? Time to revoke that old consent and issue a fresh one.

Don't Forget Your Support Coordinator

If you have an NDIS support coordinator, make sure they have proper consent to participate in phone calls, meetings, and teleconferences on your behalf. You may need to write that into the consent form as there may not be a box to tick. They're like your personal NDIS translator – but they can't speak up if they don't have permission!

Remember: you control who gets access to your information. Keep your consents current, relevant, and working for you. Write the details into your Calendary so that you always know who you'r sharing information with and when that ends.
