Tip #38 Time to Check Your NDIS Goals
Share
Got a shiny new NDIS plan? Before you start celebrating with a victory dance, pump the brakes for a hot minute. It's time for everyone's favorite activity: checking your goals are actually correct.
Think of your NDIS goals like a GPS for your funding. If your destination is "learning to cook pasta without setting off the smoke alarm" but your GPS thinks you're heading to "become a master chef," you're going to end up very lost and very frustrated.
Your funding is tied directly to your goals, so getting them wrong is like ordering pizza and receiving a salad. Technically food, but not what you asked for.
Take time to read through each goal carefully. Do they still make sense for where you are right now? Are they specific enough that your support workers know exactly what you're working toward? Can you actually measure progress, or are they as vague as "be happier"?
Remember, goals can change as your life changes. What mattered six months ago might not be your priority today, and that's perfectly normal.
Here's where a Calendary becomes your best friend. This clever cross between a calendar and diary gives you loads of space to jot down notes about your progress, setbacks, and those lightbulb moments when you realize a goal needs tweaking. Instead of trying to remember six months later why you wanted to learn underwater basket weaving, you'll have it all written down. Your future self (and your planner) will worship you for keeping such good records.
Spending time now to get your goals right will save you headaches, arguments, and possibly your sanity later. Trust us, future you will thank present you for doing the boring paperwork properly.
