Tip 2 - Let's Talk About Talking
Share
We said in Tip 1 that the starting point is you. For the blog, will say "your NDIS plan" but you might be a family member, friend or even a legal guardian wanting to learn more about surviving the NDIS.
Let's get started talking about Tip 2 of Surviving the NDiS.
Ever had that moment when your phone rings and it's your NDIS coordinator? Suddenly your brain goes blank and you're scared? Don't worry – you're not alone!
For some of us, chatting about our NDIS plan feels about as comfortable as wearing socks with sandals. There's no "right" way to feel about these conversations.
Maybe you're a phone ninja who can handle calls like a pro, or perhaps you'd rather crawl under your doona than answer an unknown number. Both are totally okay! Some folks love face-to-face chats in an office where everything feels official and organised. Others prefer the comfort of their own home – though let's be honest, that might mean frantically tidying up before your support coordinator arrives (we've all hidden dishes in the oven at least once, right?).
Remember, it's perfectly fine to say, "Actually, I'd feel more comfortable meeting at a café or library" or "Could we do this another day instead?" Your NDIS journey is unique, and that includes how you choose to communicate about it.
The key is finding your communication sweet spot – even if that means taking baby steps or bringing along your favorite support person. After all, the best conversations happen when you're comfortable being you!
