Tip #18 Ever Changing NDIS
Share
Ever tried balancing on a skateboard while someone keeps nudging the ground beneath you? That's what keeping up with the NDIS feels like most days!
One minute you think you've got it all figured out - your plan is approved, your supports are in place, and you're cruising along. Then suddenly - WHOOSH! - the rules change, a new form appears, or your coordinator mentions something called "reasonable and necessary" with a look that suggests you should already know what that means.
It's exhausting, right? Just when you master one process, they introduce an update,. And those funding categories? They might as well be written in ancient hieroglyphics sometimes!
The smartest move someone I know made following multiple hospital stays, was getting a Calendary. This little lifesaver serves as both a sign-in book for service providers and a record-keeper for all things NDIS. Every support worker signs in, every appointment gets noted, and every NDIS-related conversation gets jotted down. When review or audit time comes around (and it will!), you'll have everything in one place instead of scrambling through random notebooks and loose papers.
The NDIS is like trying to hit a moving target while standing on that wobbly skateboard. Any moment, you might lose your balance completely. But with your Calendary in hand, at least you'll have evidence of who pushed you!
Here's what can help you stay sane:
- Use your Calendary religiously - it's your NDIS safety net
- Find your NDIS translator (that one person who speaks fluent bureaucracy)
- Join a Facebook group where other confused souls share their wisdom
- Remember to breathe when they ask for the same information for the fifth time
The NDIS can be a fantastic support when everything aligns. But boy, does it test your patience getting there! Remember, we're all wobbling on this skateboard together, trying not to face-plant when they change direction.
